Te Hononga Hundertwasser Memorial Park

Kawakawa Hundertwasser Memorial Park Charitable Trust was formed to preserve the local memories and legacy of Friedensreich Hundertwasser who built the world-famous Hundertwasser Toilets (1999). Friedensreich Hundertwasser's death in February 2000, brought a group of passionate citizens together, to form the Kawakawa Hundertwasser Memorial Park Charitable Trust. rd the local memories and legacy of Hundertwasser's New Zealand heritage, in particular his prominence in the Kawakawa history. The Trust worked together with key Stakeholders: Ngati Hine, Kawakawa Business and Resident Association, Far North District Council, Northland Regional Council, Far North Holdings Ltd and the wider Bay of Islands community, to realise the Trust's dream and bring the Hundertwasser Memorial Park Centre - Te Hononga (the joining of cultures) to life. Te Hononga Hundertwasser Memorial Park was opened 9th October 2020 by the Hon Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Te Hononga Hundertwasser Memorial Park is a community cultural hub that brings together the Library, council Service Centre, Hundertwasser Memorial Interpretive Centre, a public Gallery, a community Workshop, improved public facilities and restrooms, public car parking and Freedom Camper facilities.
