Massive mihi to our kaiako at Te Wharekura o Hokianga..

Another big mihi to Matua Keelan and The Bush Kura for coming up and showing us a lot of new skills, sharing with our kaiako and kaimahi. H**e he kupu! we are grateful.

Lastly we wouldn’t be able to keep the kids warm, dry, sheltered, safe or be able to move them without the support and grants from sponsors like Foundation North, Sky City Community Grants and Pub Charities.. Mihi tino nui ki a koutou.

Ka Hao Ngā Rangatahi ki Whirinaki : gaining valuable life skills

Whānau from Whirinaki have collaborated to launch an initiative to reconnect tamariki aged 5–11 years with their taiao. Ka Hao Ngā Rangatahi ki Whirinaki was a programme run over two holiday camps, enabling taitamariki to explore their awa, kayak on the Whirinaki River, set nets, and learn kōrero tuku iho. Each camp was guided by their pepeha, following maunga and rere, allowing them to walk the land and learn its significance. Positive outcomes have included parents expressing pride as they watch their tamariki grow in confidence. Inspired by the initiative’s purpose, Xena Tautari named it Ka Hao Ngā Rangatahi ki Whirinaki, reflecting the aim of nurturing the next generation to thrive.
