Many kin carers tell us that the hardest part isn't the sleepless nights or the school runs. It's feeling alone in it. 💚 Donate today to support those parenting again so they don't have to feel alone.

Connection makes a difference. Support groups, someone who understands, and a community that cares can change everything for a carer.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren exists so carers don’t have to feel alone.

Anna always dreamed of travelling in retirement, including returning to Tibet. ✈️ Donate today to support those parenting again.

Then her granddaughter needed her. Years later, so did her grandson. There was never any question about stepping in.

Raising two children later in life has been tiring and challenging. But Anna wouldn't change it for the world.

Travel plans became school runs, milestones and precious everyday moments, and every sacrifice has been worth it to watch her grandchildren grow and thrive.

This October, we're asking you to donate to support those parenting again, just like Anna. Your donation helps Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provide the support, advocacy and connection these families need.

Kinship care is when grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, adult siblings, or other relatives care for children instead of their birth parents. Donate today to support those kinship carers parenting again.

Kinship Care Week is from 5-11 October.

Kin carers are raising tamariki and rangatahi in homes all around Aotearoa, and many of them are grandparents. They often give up their retirement dreams to do so. Know a kin carer? Tag them below, or share this to help more whānau find support. 💚

Sandra's retirement dream wasn't parenting again. Donate today to support those parenting again.

Sandra's dream was a caravan, the open road, and a motorbike heading off into the sunset. 🏍️

Instead, they're raising their 10-year-old granddaughter: school drop-offs, doctor's appointments, and a life built around her.

Thousands of grandparents across Aotearoa are parenting again, and many feel like they're doing it alone. They're not. ❤️

This October, we're asking you to donate to support those parenting again. Your donation helps Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provide the support, advocacy and connection these families need.

💚 20,000+ tamariki and rangatahi are raised by their grandparent and whānau across Aotearoa New Zealand. 💚

That's grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, siblings, and other whānau who stepped up when it mattered, often without warning and often without support.

For many grandparent and whānau carers, they put their retirement dreams on hold. Donate today to support those parenting again: https://whats-your-retirement-dream.raiselysite.com/en/

This Kin Carers Week, we want to say something simple: thank you. 💚

To the grandparents, aunties, uncles and whānau who stepped up for tamariki who needed them. To the carers doing school runs, bedtime routines and everything in between, often while quietly setting aside plans of their own.

You are the reason tamariki across Aotearoa get to grow up surrounded by love and whānau.

But no one should have to do it alone.

Throughout October, our "What's your retirement dream? Parenting Again?" campaign is sharing the real stories behind the grandparent and whānau carers who are parenting again. Your donation helps Grandparents Raising Grandchildren give them the support they need to thrive.

Today we're celebrating grandparents, and especially the ones who have stepped in to raise their grandchildren.

Many of them didn't plan on this. They were ready for slower mornings, quiet weekends and the joy of being the fun grandparent. Instead, when a family needed them, they said yes. Back to school runs, homework at the kitchen table, parent-teacher interviews, night-time nightmares, and all the love that comes with raising a child.

They do this while often juggling fixed incomes, health challenges, complicated family dynamics and the grief that can sit underneath it all. And most of the time, they do it quietly, without asking for recognition.

So today, we want to say: We see you. We value you. We honour you.

We see the sacrifices you make, the plans you've put on hold, and the strength it takes to start again when you thought your parenting years were behind you. You are keeping children connected to their family, their culture and their story. That matters more than words can say.

To every grandparent raising a grandchild: thank you. Your love is changing lives.

If you know a grandparent doing this mahi, tell them today that you see them. Better still, ask what support would help, whether that's a meal, a lift, a break, or just someone to listen.
