Tuff Crater is a community and reserve in Northcote, North Shore, New Zealand.

Forest & Bird and the local community are working hard to make Tuff Crater & Onepoto Stream and surrounding properties pest free so wildlife and natural beauty can thrive.

We are planting again at our Onepoto Stream restoration site this Saturday 8th at 9am. We will gather at the Ritchies depot on Kawana St between the Kawana Coffee House and Invenco. Bring gumboots and a spade, saw and gels if you have them. We are planting along the south side of the stream where there are gaps, planting mahoe, kanuka, titoki, and kahikatea. Each kahikatea will be staked to protect it from flooding. If in doubt or lost please phone Richard 0212161296

We have known for a long time that we have banded rail and spotless crake living in Tuff Crater reserve, which is one reason we have comprehensive predator control in the reserve. Recently Jill and Pest Free Kaipātiki staff have been using trail cameras to look for these shy birds. Bingo! Here is a nice video of a banded rail foraging in the mangroves. Well done team.

We are tending to last years plants tomorrow morning. 9am, St Peters cul de sac and head north (left). We will be clearing grasses around the native plants to give them a bit of space. Come on down - we would love to see you.
