Our program is focused on empowering young people through adventurous experiences to lead lives that make a positive difference. Mairangi Bay Scouts was founded on the 1st March 1941 and has offering scouting to youth in the community since. Our program and methods have changed over the years but we continue to focus on the core of scouting, empowering young people through adventurous experiences
to lead lives that make a positive difference. SCOUTS is about fun and personal development: this means promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In
SCOUTS, we believe that young people develop best when they are ‘learning by doing’; when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. We break this age range down into different groups, which we call sections, that meet weekly during school term. The section names and times are in the table below. Keas (5 - 8 years olds) - attend one night:
Tuesday 5.00 - 6.00pm
Thursday 5.30 - 6.30pm
Cubs (8 - 11 year olds) - attend one night:
Monday 6.30 - 8.00pm
Tuesday 6.30 - 8.00pm
Scouts (11 - 14 years old)
Wednesday 7.00 - 9.00pm
Venturers (14 - 18 years old)
Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm
Scouts is not a regular afterschool programme. It is run by volunteers (not paid) who give their time freely to run the sessions and activities. Children supported by their families, are encourage to take a lead or assist in running programmes and attending community events.
