Join us at Puāwai (PFK headquarters) for two upcoming community planting days!

We are transforming Ross Reserve into a series of native gardens for the community to enjoy and would love for you to join us in making this vision a reality. We have lots of plants to get in the ground, so all are welcomed!

Tools and gloves are provided. Please wear covered shoes, clothes you’re happy to get dirty in and weather-appropriate clothing. Lunch is provided, so come in after for some food and a chat after!

Back in February, the kids of the Bayview Early Learning Centre did an outdoor painting session and created stunning moho pererū artwork. Wouldn’t it be amazing to spot this rare bird everywhere along the Kaipātiki coast? The birds are found where there’s wetland protected through predator control. And the Bayview kids set up their rat trap so that it’s ready to go!

As part of , we'd like to introduce you to Grant Knight.

When people walk into Puāwai, the headquarters of Pest Free Kaipātiki, they see a welcoming space — a hub for ecological restoration, education and community building.

What many do not see is the enormous amount of volunteer labour that went into transforming this former bowling club building into what it is today.

And at the centre of that work was Grant Knight.

From clearing soil left behind by the bowling club to insulating walls, building shelving, maintaining the grounds and tackling countless jobs behind the scenes, Grant has helped turn a neglected building into a vibrant community space.

Always willing to take on the tough tasks and quietly get the job done, Grant's dedication, practical skills and generosity have made an enormous difference to PFK and the wider community.

Thank you, Grant, for everything you do.

🐀 The 2026 PFK Chew Card Campaign is nearly here, and we need your help surveying pests across Kaipātiki. Sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/3rvdzux3

Between 3–13 July, we need volunteers to walk a local trail, attach chew cards to marked trees, then return three nights later to collect them. The bite marks tell us exactly which pests are in the area — so we can target control more effectively.

Ros and Mike recently brought their neighbourhood together for a fantastic day of restoration, tackling a shaded area that had become overrun with weeds like pink knotweed, bushy asparagus and bangalow palms.

With support on the ground, neighbours learned how to identify pest plants and gained a deeper understanding of the local ecology. There were even some exciting discoveries along the way, with kids getting up close to skinks, snails and worms—bringing the ecosystem to life right in their own backyard!

It was a truly special day of learning and teamwork, made even better with cake and great conversations.

Congratulations on our two Pod Patrol Winners for the month of May: Marlborough Primary School and Birkdale Intermediate School! They stopped 10,000 moth plants for establishing!

Incredible by these young conservationists!
