The MetService Orange Warning for heavy rain has been lifted for Taitokerau-Northland.

🌧 Rivers and streams may continue to rise after the rain subsides. Please take care if you are travelling around our roads.

MetService New Zealand has updated the weather warning for our region this morning.

🟠 An Orange Heavy Rain Warning is in place for Northland 🟠.

A low pressure system north of New Zealand moves southeast during Saturday and early Sunday, bringing periods of heavy rain to the northern North Island with a risk of localised downpours. A front moves across the lower South Island on Sunday bringing a period of prolonged disturbed westerlies.

Expect 70 to 100 mm of rain, possibly more in localised downpours. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h, but possible 25 to 40 mm/hr in downpours. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.

With these forecast conditions we could see:
• Rapid rises in streams and rivers
• Surface flooding and slips
• Hazardous driving conditions, especially later today and tonight
• Reduced visibility during downpours

If you’re travelling this afternoon or evening, plan ahead and be prepared for changing conditions.

➡️ Be aware of landslide risks, especially in areas prone to slips
➡️ Clear gutters and drains while conditions are quieter

➡️ If conditions worsen and you feel unsafe, be prepared to move to a safe place

This is an opportunity to come together as whānau, hear updates on the Trust’s mahi, ask questions, share your whakaaro, and connect with one another over kai.

Whether you’re a regular attendee or joining us for the first time, we’d love to see you there.

Your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into scrubbing, cleaning, weeding and caring for our marae was truly appreciated. Your generosity of time and effort has made a real difference! Our marae is a special place because of the people who care for it and we are deeply grateful for every pair of hands that contributed.

🎓 Kia Tupu Kia Whanake ngā Kura Māhita o Ngātiwai – 2026 Intake Applications NOW OPEN!

Ngātiwai Trust Board is offering scholarships and bursaries for registered Ngātiwai uri aged 18+ pursuing pathways in:

• Primary / Intermediate Education
• Secondary Education

📅 Applications open: 8 June 2026
📅 Applications close: 3 July 2026
📢 Funding decisions confirmed: End of Semester 2, 2026

Six scholarships are available annually:

• 3 × Primary / Intermediate
• 3 × Secondary

Bursaries are also available based on demonstrated need, study commitments, workforce alignment, and kaupapa contribution.

This kaupapa aims to strengthen Ngātiwai educational leadership, cultural identity, and long-term iwi wellbeing by supporting uri entering the education workforce.

Applicants must:
✔ Be 18 years or older
✔ Reside in Aotearoa
✔ Be enrolled in or entering an approved education pathway
✔ Demonstrate commitment to educational workforce development and giving back to Ngātiwai communities

Successful recipients will participate in wānanga, mentoring, annual reporting, and contribute toward Ngātiwai educational aspirations following study completion.

• Academic transcript (if applicable)
• Current CV
• One written reference
• Proof of bank account
