Here are some whakaaro from Pukeiāhua kaitiaki about the Hui aa Motu.

1. Ko te whenua te take | For almost 4 years now, we have protected our Ngāti Tamainupō pā in Ngaruawahia from the threat of development.

We are protecting our whenua for future generations of mokopuna. It is this moemoea that we take with us to the Hui aa Motu.

2. Peaceful - Passive - Positive | The 3P’s are our tikanga & guiding principles which have kept everyone safe in this kaupapa & we will continue to follow them at the Hui aa Motu.

3. Mana Maaori Motuhake | We have stood in solidarity with many tangata whenua & taiao campaigners around the motu to protect the wellbeing of tupuna whenua, awa & moana.

In the same way, we will engage in the spirit of kotahitanga at the Hui aa Motu to uphold Mana Maaori Motuhake.

4. Our voices matter | We encourage whānau, hapū, iwi & hapori to participate at the Hui aa Motu. Pukeiāhua kaitiaki are going - see you at the marae.

Three years ago, we embarked on a journey to protect the significant pā site of Pukeiāhua in Ngaruawahia from commercial development. Today, as we mark the third anniversary of this successful campaign, we look back at the collective strength of the people who supported us, and we celebrate the incredible achievement that we have made together.

It has taken time, but we have not given up. We have remained committed to our cause, and we have never lost sight of our goal: to protect the whenua that is sacred to our hapū, Ngāti Tamainupō, and preserve it for future generations.

Last week, we met with the Crown & Waikato-Tainui to discuss potential pathways to see the whenua returned from private hands back into Māori ownership. This is an important step towards reconciliation, and we are hopeful that a positive outcome will be achieved soon.

We want to take this opportunity to thank every single person who has supported us along the way. Your unwavering commitment, dedication, and passion for this kaupapa have been the driving force behind our success. Together, we have shown that when we come together as a community, we can make a difference.

Let us continue to work together to protect our whenua and our mātauranga. Let us continue to awhi each other in our whawhai for justice and mana motuhake. Let us continue to inspire one another to create a brighter future for all mokopuna. Together, we can achieve anything.

Day 886 | We're still here - holding the whenua!
The whānau had a general tidy up at Pukeiāhua this weekend, coming together in kotahitanga, whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga.
