This is part of the ongoing work being done by Tidy Taranaki, a community-led environmental group focused on cleaning up illegal dumping, roadside rubbish, waterways, and public spaces across the Taranaki region.

What you see in this video is the reality on the ground — waste that doesn’t belong in our environment and the effort it takes to remove it before it reaches our rivers, ocean, and farmland.

Tidy Taranaki is volunteer-driven and relies on community support to cover clean-up costs, equipment, and disposal fees.

🌿 Tidy Taranaki out on Waipapa Road! 🌿

Another awesome clean-up day down Waipapa Road — Every bag of rubbish we pick up makes a real difference to the whenua, the waterways, and the wildlife that call this place home. 💚

For many in Taranaki, caring for the environment isn’t just a tidy-up — it’s part of kaitiakitanga: the responsibility to look after our land, river, and taiao for the next generation. When we protect these spaces, we honour the stories, connections, and whakapapa tied to them.

Small actions add up. Picking up rubbish might seem simple, but it helps keep our rivers healthier, our roadside cleaner, and our community prouder. 🌱✨

♻️ Tidy Taranaki out at Ngatimaru Road, Waitara 🗑️

We’ve been back out around Ngatimaru Road today — picking up rubbish that’s been dumped near the pond and riverbanks. Quite alot left 😓 But we will persevere! Sadly, a lot of this waste ends up washing into the Waitara River, where it affects local wildlife and our waterways.

What starts as a few bags of rubbish or bottles in the bush ends up breaking down into microplastics, leaching into the soil and water — harming fish, birds, and everything that depends on the river.

💚 Every little bit helps — if you’re out this way, please keep an eye out and take a bag with you.
Together we can protect our awa (river) and the life that depends on it.

🚆 Keeping Taranaki Tidy —
You might’ve seen us out along the railway recently, clearing up litter and helping keep our region looking its best. Every bit of rubbish we collect makes a difference — for our community, our wildlife, and our beautiful Taranaki landscape. 🌿
Few beach missions in the rain this week too 😅
Happy to say some of our Beach's are not as bad as our Roadsides!🤟😎

This was out backbeach ways at the start of the week... Sadly becoming quite frequent with the price of dump fees sky high... Still doesn't excuse rubbish behaviour 👎

I filled a whole black sack from the gravel pit in Bell Block. This area seems to collect a lot of roadside rubbish!
