Its always Summer, somewhere on the planet :-)

We were delighted to welcome former Club Chairman (and later President) Gerald Davies back for a tour of the lifeguard station this week with his son Hywel (also a former Chairman).

Gerald was one of the founding members of Rest Bay Lifeguard Club. When the club was at risk of folding in 1990 due to low numbers Gerald went out knocking doors around Rest Bay to recruit new members.

Gerald dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to the club. It's thanks to Gerald's efforts and vision with the support of his wife Gloria, along with other dedicated officers of the club at the time including Jeff Page and Norah Clarke and our fundraising committee that the lifeguard station was built and opened in 1997.

Hywel's work took him overseas where he now lives and it's great to have his involvement in our training sessions whilst we have him on loan from East End Surf Life Saving Club.

Club Bathrooms refurbished as a result of TOI Foundation Capital Grant

We are thrilled to share that the refurbishment of the three bathrooms in the East End Club Rooms is complete. Our members have been asking for this for years and we were very grateful to be awarded a TOI Foundation capital grant to complete this work, it would not have been possible without their support.

Club members, lifeguards, junior surf, community groups that use the facilities and those attending beach education will all benefit from fresh, hygienic facilities. Many thanks to the TOI Foundation for what they make possible in our community, it makes a huge difference.

A big shout out to Livingstone Building and their subcontractors for completing the upgrade to high quality, to budget and schedule. Everyone pulled together to deliver this for us.

How great is this! Think Water Taranaki were onsite today installing our new rainwater tank at East End Surf Club. This addition was made possible thanks to funding from the New Plymouth District Council's Community Climate Change Fund.

Boards, skis, IRBs and rescue gear all need a freshwater wash-down after every use in the salt water. That adds up fast to a lot of water use! This tank will let us capture and repurpose rainwater for our equipment wash-downs, saving mains water and keeping our gear in top condition.

Sustainability is something we're committed to as a club. We feel a responsibility to look after the environment we love, and this is one of the ways we're taking action.

Once it's installed, we'll make sure everyone who needs to know gets a run-down on how to use it.

A big thanks again to the NPDC Community Climate Change Fund for making this possible.
