'CALL ME JACK' 3500M steeple chase-17 fences- 21 June 2026

Although these horses must be particularly tough considering the years of wear and tear on their bodies and minds, they also commonly enter jumps racing with a considerable number of old racing injuries, which - on top of their higher age - puts them at increased risk of fatal injuries and falls.

What do you think? Should jumps racing be banned? Do you support horseracing?

Another race, another faller. While we wait for the stewards report and what has happened with 7 year old 'IN A PICKLE' we think about WEST COAST who died on the race track this week.

Horseracing is animal abuse.

**BREAKING NEWS**

In footage sent to us we see WEST COAST a 10 year old Gelding crashing to the ground after jumping a fence.

When horses are jumps racing, they are confronted with the task of galloping as fast as they can whilst being forced to jump obstacles in a crowd of other horses attempting to do the same. The stress, the crowding, and the high speed makes it difficult for the horses to negotiate the obstacles. Jumps racing has been found to be almost 20 times more deadly for horses compared to flat racing.
*Source in comments.

Racegoers, trainers and owners all are agreed this is a tragic end to a career.

The footage may be upsetting to some as it shows WEST COAST taking his last breaths.

Jumps racing needs to be banned. Horseracing is animal cruelty.

West Coast- The twentieth horse to die this horseracing season in Aotearoa NZ.
West Coast was the favorite in the (steeplechase) jumps race and has won before there multiple times.
From the stewards report

"Misjudged the fence near the 1000 metres and fell.".. Was it his mistake? should he have been there forced to run as fast as he can at ten years old?

This time his horse float went back empty.

There are many opinion pieces and comments around his death, for example 'accidents happen' and 'could happen in the paddock'. These excuses are of course the disconnect people that support this cruel industry make up.

Does this mean the other nineteen deaths are insignificant?

What we normally see around the death of a horse is that it goes by without being mentioned anywhere, the footage is cut from Trackside NZ ,the TAB don't mention it
Signature Homes sponsored this race, keep that in mind that they sponsor cruelty.

What are your thoughts on this? Is horseracing sustainable? Is it safe for horses? Is it good for the New Zealand economy?

HEART OF ACES

The 18th horse to be killed by the horseracing industry in NZ this season

From the race report:
HEARTOFACES (M Hudson) - Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Clipped heels and fell near the 500
metres The horse ambulance was immediately deployed. The filly was found to have suffered a

Was this death unnecessary? make your own mind up. The consensus is that its a common injury and is curable.
