On Tuesday 2nd December, CAPT Zoe Moulam was awarded the Cadet Forces Medal. This medal is awarded for long service, recognising 12 years of continuous service to New Zealand Cadet Forces.

Serving with Nelson Cadet Unit since 2014, Zoe has held numerous senior appointments and currently serves as our Executive Officer. She has completed a wide range of professional development courses and continues to give back as an instructor on Officer and Cadet course and Area Skills competitions.

She is recognised for her calm, pragmatic and solution-focused leadership, always placing the needs of cadets first. Her professionalism was formally recognised in 2016 with the award of the Commandant’s Commendation for her response to a roadside medical emergency.

The CFM is a well-deserved acknowledgment of CAPT Moulam’s sustained service and ongoing contribution to NCU and the wider Nelson community.

Congratulations CAPT Moulam!

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

BASIC FI****MS COURSE
Each year our 1st year cadets head over the hill to complete their fi****ms training on the Woodbourne range. Our 2nd year cadets learnt how to shoot from seated and kneeling positions.
They all had a busy weekend of living in barracks, mess food, revising their ratel and nav, and PT with planking competitions and sports.
This year we had TS Talisman - Navy Cadets Nelson and Motueka Cadet Unit join us!
