I'm excited to launch the first Into Parenthood Postnatal Group!

It's been six months since I last facilitated a postnatal group (for Parents Centre) and I've been missing it, so here it is...

Delve into parenting topics in a safe and relaxed space with this free, five-week postnatal group. A great first activity with a new baby, this group starts Tuesday May 13th (ideal for pēpi born 15th Mar - May).

Our final antenatal course as Nelson District Parents Centre ended last night.

We marked the 48 years of supporting families in our region with some supper together and many shared the same sentiment - "support is needed more than ever".

Thank you to everyone who has been involved through the decades. From families who attended courses or workshops or coffee groups, health professionals who gave time and shared their expertise, businesses who supported or donated to volunteers who spent countless time and gave so much passion and energy. 🥰

Thank you for all the kind messages on our last post. We know that this loss is felt widely - our antenatal courses, since Covid, were more in demand than ever before and our postnatal groups often had a waitlist.

Today Parents Centre Aotearoa sadly announced that it will close by 31 December 2024 - which will see the end of Nelson District Parents Centre.

For nearly 50 years, we've been supporting families across the Nelson Tasman region and this is a big loss in our community.

Our two qualified childbirth educators are working to ensure that parents continue to have antenatal options.

Whilst this news is very sad, we celebrate the legacy of Parents Centre Aotearoa.

Parents Centre began in 1952 with the goal to provide information and education so that parents could make informed decisions about pregnancy and childbirth. Further advocacy was instrumental in allowing parents to visit sick tamariki in hospital, father's being allowed in the room during birth and babies and mothers being kept together after birth.

Thank you to every one locally who has played a role in this legacy 💕
