It is with deep sadness that the Rutherford Rotary Club of Nelson shares news of the passing of our cherished member and past president, Les McCullough, on December 8, 2025.

Les was a dedicated Rotarian known for his "service above self" and his unwavering commitment to our community. His warmth, leadership, and spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Cathy and their family. A private cremation has already taken place.

Rest in peace, Les. Your legacy endures in our club.

From every stop our fundraising caravan made, to the countless events our team supported, your generosity has powered real impact — with every dollar raised going straight back into our local community ❤️.

On Sunday, our crew celebrated with an end‑of‑year lunch at Styx 🍽️🥂 — a perfect way to wrap up 2025 together.

🚵‍♂️ Trail Saints in Action – Digging Dirt to Make Heaven! 🌄

Keith & his crew have been working tirelessly in the hills, building 2km of fresh tracks for the 2025 Forsyth Barr National Secondary Schools MTB Championships — right here in Nelson! 🙌

📅 Event Dates: 29 September – 2 October 2025

📍 Location: Maitai Valley, Nelson

👥 Riders: Over 600 students from across Aotearoa + families = thousands of bed nights, meals, & a huge boost for our local economy

🔥 Events: Downhill, Cross Country, Relay & Enduro

This is more than just a race — it’s a celebration of youth, grit, & the epic biking culture that makes Nelson a mountain biking mecca. Whether you're a seasoned rider or just curious, come check it out & feel the buzz!

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a beloved founding member of Rutherford Rotary, who left us on July 10th, 2025. A steadfast treasurer of the Trust and past club treasurer, he brought warmth and wisdom to every meeting, often captivating us with stories from a life full of adventures. He was also a proud Paul Harris Fellow, recognized for his outstanding service and dedication.

He has now joined his late wife, Denise, and leaves behind a legacy of love as a devoted dad, dad-in-law, cherished brother, grandad, and great-grandad. Beyond Rotary, he was a respected accountant and colleague, known for his integrity and commitment. His dedication to his community was unwavering, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18th, at 2 pm at Nelson Cathedral. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent, honoring his wishes.

We will miss his presence dearly but hold tight to the memories and lessons he shared. Rest in peace, dear friend.
