✨️NEWS FLASH ✨️

Kia ora koutou!

It is with a heavy heart that we inform the community that the Koha Shed is now PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

It has been a constant struggle with rubbish dumping. Despite generous help from local businesses and waste management companies providing skips and discounts for years, it has still become unsustainable.

The beautiful people at Helping Families are inheriting the large container and incorporating it into their kaupapa, which we are very happy about.
Please consider donating to them in future to continue all the sharing.

A HUGE thank you to all our donors over the Sheds lifespan. (Especially those who provided a roof!) Your generosity gave so much back to our community.

A special thank you to Victory School and the Victory Community Center kaimahi for all the awhi and manaakitanga over the years.

Of course, none of this would have ever been possible without all the helping hands of many volunteers. We certainly had some fun though, right? Thank you for giving your all.

And to you, Sarah, bless you for keeping it all together for the last 3 years. You can rest now! 🤣

To our wonderful Woodman who helped keep you all warm and toasty in winter. Your generosity was so appreciated ❤️

To our rubbish contractors who gave discounts and did their very best for us...you definitely kept us above water when we should have sunk!
For a small Shed, it certainly saw BIG acts of kindness.

"He iti te mokoroa, nāna i kati te kahikatea"
(The mokoroa grub may be small, but it cuts through the kahikatea)

This whakatauki reminds us that this small Shed had a big impact. It operated on kindness and collective effort that made a big difference to so many.

E noho rā te hapori o Whakatū ❤️

Free Christmas Trees! Come help yourself to one, one per whānau please. A big thank you to our friends, Rod & Meagan from Kumanu Environmental who have dropped off Wilding Conifers as part of the Project Mahitahi felling of pest plants in the Maitai Valley. Big thanks to Nelson City Council too!

Project Mahitahi is a jobs for nature project which aims to restore the native ecosystems in the Maitai Valley. Wilding Conifers are a pest tree which can spread in these areas and rapidly overtake the native forest, so removing the wild trees helps to restore the ecological integrity of these special areas. Kūmānu Environmental Field Rangers are removing wilding conifers as part of the restoration project, and are helping to make these available to people to use as Christmas Trees. Wilding Christmas trees might not be as pretty as a tinsel tree or a perfectly grown specimen, but each tree removed from our environment is a gift to nature!

Our woodbine is again full thanks to our lovely woodman. Please consider others while collecting yourself some.
