Member Research Project โ€“ Industry Survey

As part of NZ Arb's commitment to supporting education and industry discussion, we occasionally share member-led research projects of potential interest to the profession.

Diploma of Arboriculture student Mason Walker is undertaking research into the feasibility of establishing a Regulatory Board and Licensing Framework for the New Zealand Arboricultural Industry.

As the industry continues to grow and faces increasing operational, safety, and economic challenges, this study aims to evaluate whether a formal regulatory board with legislative backing could be a key factor in further elevating the profession. The research explores the potential structure, feasibility, and industry appetite for a mandatory individual statutory licensing framework for New Zealand arboriculture, similar to models used by the Electrical Workers Registration Board and the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.
