No. 13 (City of Napier) Squadron, Air Training Corps

During the first week of the holidays No. 13 SQN had three cadets partake in the 02/26 JNCO Course held at RNZAF Base Ohakea.

Over the seven day course they were taught theory in leadership, instructional technique, presentation skills and squad handling, and then this theory was placed into practice with terminal assessments.

Congratulations to Acting Corporals Pickett, Peacock and Guilford, P., who attended the course.

Thank you to Hawke's Bay Airport, Napier Aero Club and Airways New Zealand for accomodating our Squadron last week.

Our Cadets had the exciting thrills of touring the new Fire Station (yes, we got to play with the sirens and water cannons!), and the Unique opportunity to observe night operations at the Control Tower.

We never take these opportunities for granted, and we thank everyone involved for their continued support and time taken to ensure that our organisations have solid inter-organisational relationships.

Proud moment for our team on Sunday

We had an awesome time supporting Pakowhai School’s fundraiser and getting stuck in behind the scenes. From helping vendors unload their cars to setting up tents and gazebos, our cadets were there every step of the way lending a hand.

Great to see the teamwork, initiative, and community spirit on display. Exactly what it’s all about.

Over the weekend 14 & 15 March, No. 13 Squadron held our 2026 Basic Barracks weekend for our new recruits.

Our new cadets spent the weekend building their knowledge and skills through a range of engaging lessons and activities. Training included sessions on leadership, medical survival in the field, and learning about the ranks of both the NZDF and NZCF.

Of course, it wasn’t all classroom learning. Cadets were also put through their paces with some PT, and spent time sharpening their drill skills on the parade ground, working towards mastering the fundamentals of discipline and teamwork.

Saturday evening the squadron wound down for the evening with a movie night featuring Top Gun: Maverick, along with BBQ sausages and good company for a perfect Sunday lunch on a perfect day of weather! A well-earned chance to relax and enjoy some squadron camaraderie.

A big thank you to our staff and senior cadets who helped deliver the training and keep the weekend running smoothly.

Well done to all cadets for their effort and enthusiasm throughout the weekend!

This year's recruitment brings our Squadron strength to 51.

It's been a great start to the year for No. 13 Squadron. A successful recruitment evening where we took on 20 new recruits who are undergoing their initial training in Squadron Parades' and drill. Meanwhile our second years are being taught JNCO Command Presence and the beginnings of Leading Teams.

Looking forward to an exciting 2026 ahead!

What a weekend for the team at No. 13 (City of Napier) Squadron.

Our cadets were proud to support Aero Deco 2026 in Napier, helping manage event parking and welcoming hundreds of visitors through the gates at Napier Aero Club . For many people arriving, our squadron was the first face of the event

An awesome day of service, teamwork, and a rare chance for our cadets to get up close with some incredible vintage aircraft. Opportunities like this are what being part of the New Zealand Cadet Forces is all about.
