We are humbled to be part of this amazing kaupapa, supporting RDCL in their efforts to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi by engaging with mana whenua on their geotechnical work.
We were able to offer a framework and facilitation support to ensure the engagement process was meaningful and valuable for everyone involved.
As a Māori pākihi (Māori Business), holding our whānau and mana whenua through processes like this is truly humbling, and we want to thank Piringa Hapū for leaning into our support throughout.
A key part of engagement is creating space for open kōrero, exploring different tools, and connecting in a way that values are heard and understood.
Thanks Te Ngahere for pulling us on board. Always a pleasure to work with our whānau.
Mauri ora!
It was an honour to be formally welcomed onto Omāhu Marae last week, after a number of good kōrero with Te Piringa Hapū in the preceding weeks around the Upper Raupare / Chesterhope Stopbank project.
The Ngaruroro River winds its way through various different hapū areas along the stretch of river, so it is important that we engage with all local iwi partners before we go and conduct our testing on the land.
As kaitiaki of the whenua many iwi contributors were able to provide us critical insights into the ground conditions and tikanga. Not the least of which included learning of an old urupa site beside the stopbank, helping us to ensure diggers can steer clear.
At RDCL we know that partnering and consulting with tangata whenua early on is key to projects moving smoothly, in a way that benefits the future of the land. Much like engaging Geotech in the early stages of a project, consultation helps to identify and minimise risks from the outset, and greatly increases the chances of long-term project success.
Thank you to all of the people who have had korero with us leading into this project and to Omāhu Marae iwi for the invitation and welcome at their wharenui Kahukuranui. It was a privilege and we are pleased iwi can be more familiarised with the RDCL team and know what we’re doing out on the whenua.
Thanks also go to Hawke's Bay Regional Council for working with us on this project, and the facilitation support from Te Ngahere and Uehā Environmental, to help enable these open conversations.
