For wāhine and whānau across Hawke's Bay, support is closer than you think.

Behind every family navigating a difficult moment, there are people showing up to help. Here are five organisations doing that mahi across our region every day.

💛 Heretaunga Women's Centre : A welcoming space in Hastings where all wāhine can access counselling, health and wellness support, mentorship, advocacy and connection. Over 100 years of supporting the women of Hawke's Bay.

💛 Birthright Hawke's Bay Child and Family Trust : Holistic support for children and families, including counselling, social work, parenting programmes, early childhood education and budgeting advice.

💛 Hastings & Napier Women's Refuge: Supporting Hawke's Bay families to live free from violence through safe house services, advocacy, education and a confidential 24/7 crisis line (0800 REFUGE).

💛 Pregnancy Help Hastings & Napier - Free Baby Clothing, Equipment & Support : Free, practical support for hapū wāhine and new parents, including baby clothing and bedding, nappies, equipment and a listening ear.

💛 Weave Hawke's Bay: Formerly Napier Family Centre, Weave provides counselling, financial mentoring, whānau support and early childhood education from Napier to Wairoa to Central Hawke's Bay.

Talofa! Last week was Samoan Language Week, and we have spent the last few weeks at Swinburn embracing the language, culture, and traditions of Samoa through meaningful learning experiences.

The children have enjoyed exploring Samoan greetings, songs, stories, and cultural activities, helping to build their understanding of diversity and respect for different cultures. Holly taught us the traditional Samoan hand clapping game / sasa, “Mili, Mili, Patia” which is used to build rhythm, learn numbers and learn about animals, this was so much fun to learn! Ask your child to show you!

Through play, conversation, and shared experiences, we have been fostering a sense of belonging and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that makes up our community.

We have loved learning alongside the children and celebrating the beauty of the Samoan language and culture together.

Our new monkey bars at Swinburn House have been a huge hit!

The children have loved challenging themselves, building their confidence and coordination, and proudly showing us all of their amazing tricks. It has been wonderful to see their determination, resilience, and excitement as they explore new ways to move and play together.
