We are a volunteer-led initiative dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of older adults & those living with disability or social isolation, by providing free rides in a comfortable triobike, our 'couch on wheels' or in our wheelchair carrying trishaw' π Our Dream
We dream of creating a world together, in which the access to active citizenship creates happiness among our fellow elderly citizens by p
roviding them with an opportunity to remain an active part of society and the local community. We do that by giving them the right to wind in their hair, the right to experience the city and nature close up from the bicycle and by giving them an opportunity to tell their story in the environment where they have lived their lives. This Napier Chapter has been started by Alan White and Elizabeth Barrett, both of whom are the founding Trustees of Cycling Without Age Napier Trust, a Registered Charity with Donee status. This means individuals can claim tax credits for donations over $5 made to us and for every dollar you donate, you get 33.33 cents back as a tax credit. Cycling Without Age guiding principles are based on generosity and kindness. It starts with the obvious generous act of taking one or two elderly or less-abled people out on a bike ride. Itβs a simple act that everyone can do.
>Generosity:
Generosity permeates every single activity in Cycling Without Age and works its magic at many different levels.
>Slowness:
Slowness allows you to sense the environment, be present in the moment and it allows people you meet along the way to be curious about Cycling Without Age.
>Storytelling:
We tell stories, we listen to stories of the elderly people on the bike and we also document these stories when we share them via word of mouth or on social media.
>Relationships:
We create a multitude of new relationships across any border in our society.
>Cycling Without Age:
We let people age in a positive context - fully aware of the opportunities that lie ahead when interacting with their local community.
