The rise of Matariki in the winter skies above Aotearoa is an important time in the Māori calendar, as it signifies the start of the Māori new year.

New beginnings are important to us here at Workbridge. We believe that people with disabilities and health conditions should have the opportunity to turn over a new leaf and start a fresh in their job search, with the help of our expert staff and our great employers 😀

The Workbridge team are deeply saddened by Sir Robert’s death.

In a personal reflection Workbridge CEO Jonathan Mosen had these words to share:
"As a disabled person, I feel Sir Robert’s loss very deeply. He endured atrocious conditions and abuse, was institutionalised and treated as less than human. He shared those experiences in their horrific detail, even though it must have been difficult, so we never, ever forget,
I send my condolences to Sir Robert’s wife Lady Lynda, his family and those who worked closely with him"

In a further personal reflection GM Stakeholder Engagement Nick Ruane had these words:
" Sir Robert was a friend and a mentor, he encouraged and supported disabled people to lead and to fight for our rights and I will miss him immensely. My condolences go to Lady Lynda and to the family, we have lost a significant leader in our community and it is now up to those left behind to pick up the mantle"

Sir Robert had a connection to the Workbridge Whanganui team, and was a frequent visitor to our Whanganui office, where he would call in for a cuppa and to offer encouragement. The team will miss those cheery chats and his support for what we do.

Many of us in the positions of disability leadership took great pride in his representation of New Zealand on the international stage.

He leaves an immense void, but those of us left behind will honour his legacy by continuing to strive for a less disabling society. I have no doubt that’s what he would want us to do
