The communities of Te Ika Whenua join together in prayer to bestow the wairua (spirit) of manaaki (protection) and aroha (love) on our community member, Dr Bernard Conlon and his team at the Murupara Medical Centre.

🙏🏽 Karakia | Prayer 🙏🏽

Kia tau, kia ū, kia pūmau te mauri

Kia rere atu ngā kino kia hoki ki te pō

Kaua e whiti mai te hinengaro kino ki a mātou

Ko mātou tēnei, he uri nō ngā maunga tū tonu

Kaua e taea. Ka aukatia. Ka tapu.

Ka mau.

Haumi e, hui e, tāiki e. 🙏🏽

Let our mauri (life force) be firm, grounded, and strong

Let all harmful things return to the night

Let no ill intent cross into our mind or space

We stand as descendants of enduring mountains
You shall not reach us.

We are protected. We are sacred. It is done.

Let us come together and be united.

Amen. 🙏🏽

❤️ We are behind you Dr Bernard Conlon, Dr Britta Noske and the Murupara Medical Centre. ❤️

Just a reminder, today the lawyers at the health tribunal hearing in Rotorua will deliver their submissions for the tribunal to consider.

This step may not mean a final outcome is reached by the tribunal today. However, we hope it will, especially after a five year wait for Dr Conlon, his team and the communities of Te Ika Whenua.

We acknowledge the tribunal in its mahi (work) and will await its decision.

The communities of Te Ika Whenua stand firmly behind you, Dr Bernard Conlon and Dr Britta Noske.

Today (16 March) marks the beginning of the final week of the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal hearing for Dr Conlon.

As a community, we await the Tribunal’s final decision.

In the meantime, the people of Te Ika Whenua continue to express the deep appreciation we hold for Dr Conlon, who has served our community with dedication and care for more than three decades, alongside his wife, Dr Noske, and his team at the Murupara Medical Centre.

This photo, taken last Monday (09 March) before the hearing began, captures the spirit of our community - one of manaaki (protection) and aroha (love).

Our doctors are adorned with two kākahu huruhuru (feathered cloaks), gifted as a symbol of our appreciation.

These kākahu were presented to them by Murupara kaumātua Pem Bird on behalf of the communities of Te Ika Whenua.

We also mihi to the kaiwhatu (weavers) who lovingly created these taonga manaaki (treasures) for our doctors.

The cloaks were gifted to them ahead of a community hui on 3 March in Murupara - a gathering called by He Tākuta Tipua, a group of volunteers from across Te Ika Whenua. We also acknowledge Dr Conlon for accepting our invitation to join the hui.

These kākahu huruhuru also acknowledge Dr Conlon’s adoption as a tribal member of Ngāti Manawa - a reflection of the deep and enduring relationship he holds with our people and our place.

It is also important to acknowledge that he is highly regarded by all our kin iwi of Te Ika Whenua.

Ngā mihi tātou mā.

Mauri ora ki a tātou,

Day 1 of the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Hearing for Dr Bernard Conlon has wrapped up. We mihi (acknowledge) to all of the communities of Te Ika Whenua for attending today to showcase their love, appreciation and trust in Dr Conlon.

About 200 supporters from Te Ika Whenua (Murupara, Te Whāiti-nui-a-Toi, Galatea, Ruatāhuna, Kaingaroa and the settlements in between) were there to walk with him and his wife, Dr Britta Noske, in Rotorua today. Health colleagues and supporters from outside of Dr Conlon's community were also among those gathered.

We trust in you, Dr Conlon.

To all his supporters, we appreciate your kindness to our doctor and ask that you follow our community's lead to manaaki (protect) him by abiding by our values and tikanga (guidelines).

❤️Our values❤️

🌟 He Tū Kotahi, He Ngākau Whirinaki - One Stand, One Trusting Heart 🌟

The communities of Te Ika Whenua are guided by the following uaratanga (values) while attending Dr Conlon’s hearing:

• Unity / Kotahitanga: We stand together in solidarity with Dr Conlon, a trusted member of our community.
• Respect: All attendees are asked to behave respectfully at all times.
• Integrity: No placards, banners, or signs are to be displayed during the hearing, reflecting our trust and confidence in Dr Conlon.
• Mana: We stand with confidence in Dr Conlon and the communities he serves. Our presence will demonstrate support in a peaceful and dignified way.

He Tākuta Tipua is made up of representatives from across Te Ika Whenua who have been reminding our community supporting Dr Conlon while in the Tribunal hearing to abide by the following guidelines:
• Switch off your phone (no filming, livestreaming or photos and no playing on your phone)
• Being respectful of the tribunal by not walking in and out of the hearing at your leisure (it's a tribunal hearing)
• No loitering in the hotel lobby
• Remember information in the hearing is not to be shared publicly until the Tribunal has made its decision and its findings are published

We encourage anyone wishing to support our doctor to do so peacefully and respectfully, and to respect our values and guidelines above.

Because his patients and our communities are deeply invested in the Tribunal process and the care he provides to Te Ika Whenua.

🪶We have waited five years for Dr Conlon and his team to achieve closure on a long-overdue matter. 🪶

Ngā mihi mai ngā hapori o Te Ika Whenua | Thank you from the communities of Te Ika Whenua.
