Aotearoa Cultural & Volunteer Exchange ACVE - Cultural exchange is about getting deeper into communities; learning, sharing and living together. Don't just see the surface of the world - go deeper!

Intercultural connection and understanding is what makes our world a better place. Aotearoa Cultural & Volunteer Exchange (ACVE) is a dynamic international youth charity responsible for running the ICYE volunteer exchange programme in New Zealand and Australia. Each year we welcome over 50 volunteers from around the world to share their skills and experience life in New Zealand. In return, we send young Kiwis & Aussies overseas to volunteer in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.

Over the past 10 days we have had the privilege of hosting the coolest group of students from Indonesia on a jam-packed school exchange program in NZ. From the beach to the countryside, schools to slip’n’slides, and horse-riding to city-exploring, they got to experience a little slice of Aotearoa. Thank you to all of the students for taking part, our fantastic Indonesian partner Dejavato Foundation, and all of our hosts in NZ for getting involved!

And we wish all our very best to the 17 students who travelled from Indonesia to NZ - here’s to a bright future ahead!

Meet Finlae! She is currently volunteering in Austria 🇦🇺➡️🇦🇹

Since arriving in February, Finlae has settled in beautifully and is making the most of every moment!She’s thrown herself into the experience, eager to learn the German language, connect with new people, and fully immerse herself in Austrian culture. From everyday conversations to new traditions (and the snow), she’s embracing it all with enthusiasm!

Here’s a fun connection: volunteering clearly runs in the family, her dad also took part in the program back in 1986/87, spending his time in Berlin!

Hi, I’m Finlae! I’m 22 years old and from Australia. I’m currently volunteering for five months at a Montessori school in Austria through ICYE / ACVE.
This experience has been an incredible opportunity to meet new people, explore different cultures, and immerse myself in a new language — all while having plenty of fun (including snow!) and contributing to a meaningful community project.
