Kia ora e te whānau

We encourage our Ngāti Hauā whānau and marae to take a moment to familiarise yourselves with information and resources relating to H5 Bird Flu (Avian Influenza).

Waikato-Tainui has developed a useful information page to support whānau and marae to understand H5 Bird Flu, including what signs to look out for, how to respond safely, where to report concerns, and practical steps we can take to help prevent the spread of disease.

While the risk to the general public remains low, being informed and prepared helps us to protect the wellbeing of our whānau, our manu and our taiao.

As kaitiaki, awareness and early reporting are important ways we can collectively help safeguard our whenua, waterways, wildlife and places of significance.

We encourage whānau to read through the information and share it with others, particularly those involved with our marae, whenua, farming, hunting or activities around manu and wildlife.

A reminder that our Hui‑ā‑Iwi will be held at Kai‑a‑te‑mata Marae this Sunday, 2 August 2026, starting at 9.00am. A cup of tea will be available from 8.30am.

🌟 Raungaiti Marae Matariki 2026 🌟

E te whaanau, you're invited to join us for a special afternoon and evening as we prepare together for our Matariki Celebration 2026.

Bring a potluck meal to share as we enjoy an evening of whanaungatanga before staying the night at the marae.

Together we'll prepare everything for Friday's celebration, including:

🌅 Preparing the Hautapu area and ahi
🍽️ Kitchen and breakfast preparation
🍲 Hāngī preparation
🎨 Setting up the Tamariki Corner
🪑 Tables, chairs and event spaces
🎤 Entertainment and sound set-up
🚗 Parking and site preparation
🤝 Final checks ready to welcome our manuhiri

After our preparations, we'll share our potluck dinner, enjoy Matariki kōrero and whanaungatanga, then settle in for the night before rising together for our Hautapu ceremony.

5:00am – Hautapu Ceremony
Followed immediately by our Community Breakfast and a full day of Matariki celebrations.

Please bring:
