We’re proud to announce that the 2025 fishing comp raised a net profit of in excess of $28,500.00, which has been donated to Mātihetihe Marae.

This competition is our most important annual fundraiser. Like many whānau, we are feeling the impact of the rising cost of living, and it affects our marae from the maintenance of our buildings and equipment, to utilities and the upgrades needed to keep our facilities safe and functional. The success of the fishing comp helps us meet those annual bills and keep the marae running for everyone.

Massive thanks to everyone who participated, sponsored, volunteered, and supported the kaupapa. Your support means everything and makes this event a financial success for our marae.

Thank you to everyone who entered this year's Fishing Competition! Congratulations to all the winners, and a huge well done to everyone who weighed in fish. We had another big turnout of anglers registered this year: 98 children, 177 adults, and 22 teams! A total of 241 fish were weighed in, with a combined weight of 242.797 kg! Endless thanks to all of our sponsors of our prizes. 🎣😎

WE'RE ALMOST THERE ‼️🎣
We are encouraging all participants to arrive at the marae from 3pm tomorrow to collect or purchase fishing tickets.
An important component of this years event is the rules and safety briefing at 5.30PM before the comp officially starts at 7.00PM.
New registrations will be accepted up until 10pm on Sunday ONLY as fishing tickets are unavailable for purchase on the 29th.

🎣 Fishing Comp reminders ‼️

➡️ Online registrations close tonight. Register online today, then just pay for and collect your wristband at the marae on Sunday.

➡️ In-person registrations will be available Sunday 28 December only, from 3–10pm at the marae.

💰 Cash and Eftpos payments accepted at the marae. NOTE: NO PAYWAVE.

⚠️ 5.30pm debrief is compulsory for all anglers.

🎣 Competition officially starts at 7pm.

🍽️ Free kai pack is included with all adult registrations and can be collected from the marae before heading up the beach.

💥 What you’ve all been waiting for! Our very own Mike Dunn has donated this stunning whalebone Reiputa, complete with a wax cord and whaletooth toggle, to raffle! The rock stand was sourced from Whatunui and polished to a smooth semi-gloss finish.

We’re keeping it simple this round so that whoever wins can name it themselves, or dedicate it to a tupuna of their choosing. A taonga with a journey of its own, soon to be carried into its next chapter. 💫
