Awhi mai as we welcome Liam, our new kaimahi into our He Waka Uruora space!
Have a read of his introduction below to get to know him a little more.
Nau mai, haere mai, Liam!
Nā, i a au anō ngā wakaaro o aku mātua. I te wakaaro mō te riri, i te wakaaro mō te pai, i te wakaaro mō te toro wenua, i te wakaaro wakatupu mō te iwi. E te iwi, kia ora.
Ko Liam Barclay tōku ingoa. Ko Kurahaupō te waka, ko Ruatea te tangata, ko Ngāti Apa, ko Ngā Wairiki ngā iwi.
I’m grateful to have recently joined Te Rūnanga o Ngā Wairiki Ngāti Apa as Kai Iri Kōrero. My role is mainly research-focused, working with historical records and kōrero tuku iho, particularly
material from the Māori Land Court, to develop resources about our iwi histories and mātauranga. I will also be assisting with tikanga Māori within the organisation and across our rohe.
I am from the Marumaru whānau of Parewānui, where I live, with strong connections to Whangaehu Marae, Ngā Uri o Tūāriki, Tini Waitara, and their respective hapū. I am also from Ngāti Hauiti and Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi.
My main aspiration in this role is to contribute to our iwi knowledge base and help make our whakapapa, histories and mātauranga more accessible to our whānau and communities. I will be writing two stories for each edition of our bi-monthly e pānui/newsletter, nō reira kia ū tonu mai rā ki ērā whakaputanga!
A huge mihi to our rūnanga for the support and for giving me the opportunity to work for our iwi. Arā tonu ake ngā kupu kōrero a taku tupuna koroua, a Rangipouri Marumaru Mā te huruhuru anō hoki ka āhei ai te rere o te manu. Tēnei rā tā koutou manu kōhungahunga nei ka whakamānawa atu
