Mapua Wetlands Restoration Group Preserving our natural wetlands environment in Mapua

Our mission is to create local consensus around the climate crisis and a shared plan for protecting our remaining wild places. Wetlands are a critical part of the ecology of our nation, playing a key role in cleansing and improving the quality of our water. As a group we focus on bringing together the advocates for our local wetlands and also promoting the restoration of many of the wetlands that

were once a feature of this land. Water from springs and streams in the hills surrounding Mapua flows down the valleys through a series of wetlands to the Waimea Inlet and Tasman Bay. This network of streams and wetlands are nature’s stormwater system and with the climate crisis and inevitable storm events, the preservation and restoration of wetlands is more important than ever.
