Hawaikitangata: Innovating Māori media for the next 20 years

“Koinei te waka i tāraia mai e te iwi Māori, e ngā tīpuna Māori e 20 tau ki muri nei hei kawe, hei whakatairanga i tō tātau reo me ngā tikanga Māori. Mō wai te painga? Mō tātau te painga.”

(This is the waka that was sculpted by te iwi Māori and our ancestors 20 years ago - to carry and promote our Māori language and customs for our benefit.)

Congratulations to everyone who was awarded the Kings Birthday Honours List this year! 👏❤️

Having only recently stepped down as Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu’s first woman and longest-serving CEO, Arihia Bennett (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou, Ngāpuhi) was not expecting news of a King’s Birthday Honour to arrive in the mail. But it did, much to her delight.

Whānau from all across the motu descend upon Omahu marae to lay down some wero, to explore kotahitanga in depth and imagine new possibilities for ourselves as Ngāi Māori. Massive mihi to Omahu marae, hapū and whanau, and all our relations from near and far who have arrived - nau mai.
