🌱 Taiao Tuesday 🌱
Each month, we share a glimpse into the living taonga of Te Motu a Hiaroa, its waterways, ecosystems, and the mahi being done to restore and care for them.
This month, we’re focusing on one of the motu’s inlets that is now land-locked, a small but important piece of our whenua we are currently assessing as part of Wai Ora, Kāinga Ora (WOKO).
Wai Ora, Kāinga Ora, led by Pūrangakura, aims to regenerate local waters and ecosystems through intergenerational, kaainga-based wai solutions. Te Motu a Hiaroa Trust is partnering in this mahi alongside kairangahau Torerenui a Rua Wilson to help co-design kāinga-led initiatives that respond to climate impacts on waterways and ecosystems essential to kāinga wellbeing.
Restoring these waterways and ecosystems is key to reviving the mauri of the land and supporting intergenerational knowledge transfer and action. Even small parts of the motu play a role in building resilient, climate-ready whenua for future generation
