Shore Skink Bonus Facts:

🦎These beautiful skinks only live at the coast – usually within 200m of the high tide line.

🦎As reptiles, most skinks lay eggs - but our native skinks give birth to live young! (except for the well named egg-laying skink).

🦎Shore skink are active during the day, and love sunbathing. They feed on invertebrates and small fruits.

🦎Their numbers have declined due to the loss of their coastal habitat, and introduced predators like rats, hedgehogs and feral cats.

🦎You can help look after shore skink by staying off the dunes, restoring dune habitats and undertaking predator control!

That’s a wrap on Conservation Week!
It’s been inspiring to see so many people giving their time to support our environment.
If you’re feeling inspired, it doesn’t have to stop here. There are plenty of ways to get involved throughout the year. Check out the work of Sustainable Kaipara , Piroa Conservation Trust and the Shorebirds Trust to stay up to date with local volunteering opportunities. 🐀🌱♻️🌍
