Mangapai Community This public community page is to share what is happening at the Mangapai Community Hall and Domain. Yours sincerely,
- Mangapai Hall Society

Contact us to become a 'Friend of the Hall' - an annual donation to support the running of the hall. Historically Mangapai was a thriving area in the 1800's and this area was settled before Whangarei was discovered and McAllisters Road was actually considered State Highway 1. The original hall was built in 1892 but burnt down in 1900. Our current hall was built in 1903. The Mangapai Trust Board is

the official owner of the hall and the immediate land it sits on, which was gifted to the community by the Crown. Today the Mangapai Hall Society which was formed in 1960's operates the hall as the local community voice and guardians of the area. The Hall Society owns the body of land surrounding the hall that bounders our neighbours. Community hall facilities are managed by volunteer committees, generally legally constituted as Incorporated Societies or Trusts. As our land is owned by a trust our hall is bound to operate as an incorporated society. Over the years, various committees have enabled our doors to remain open with some community members being involved for a number of years. Many social events have been held, different clubs/groups have used the facilities, funds raised, kitchen upgraded, equipment purchased etc. and they can be proud of their achievements and community spirit as we have an amazing facility that many have worked tireless for to provide for our Mangapai community since 1892. We hope this gives you a little information about your hall and how it needs your support in a variety of ways to ensure that this facility remains in the future. Consider :-
- Becoming a committee member
- Offer skills that could be used in the maintenance of the building
- Become a financial supporter, by being a "Friend of the Hall" for the minimal amount of $30 per family per year. Message us for a bank account number or a postal address for cheque payments.

Could the person on the motor bike please refrain from doing donuts outside the hall. The windows don't like it or my lawn mower and neither does my legs or face that hit the stones that you flick onto the lawn.
If this is your child please 🙏 ask him to stop.

Also, the hall lawn is not a toilet for your dog's, please take it with you.

I really would appreciate it.

Our summer flower-bed plants are due for renewal and will be removed soon. Instead of disposing of them, we’d like to offer the surviving plants to green-fingered gardeners to keep them growing. Keen to try your hand? Come and get some free, mature flowering plants at the times and places below.

🌷 Cafler Park, Friday 6 March from 10:30am: Geraniums and begonias
🌷 Town Basin carpark, Tuesday 10 March from 10:30am: Red, pink and white begonias
🌷 Forum North, Wednesday 18 March, 8:00am: Scarlet perennial lobelia (pictured) and gazanias
🌷 Town Basin by Claphams Clock Museum, Thursday 19 March from 7:00-10:00am: Blue perennial lobelia and dianthus
🌷 Cameron and Rathbone Street, Monday 23 March at 7:30am: Dianthus (mixed colours)
🌷 Airport, Monday 23 March at 10:00am: Begonias and cineraria
🌷 Laurie Hall Park*, Easter Monday anytime: Cut yourself some beautiful bunches of flowers as the plants will be removed on Tuesday 7 April.
(*Keep picking the chillies in the top walkway border and let us know what you are making with them. We will be removing them and replanting them with winter vegetables in late April.)

The small print:
Bedding plants usually only flower for a season and then die down, but skilled gardeners can sometimes keep them looking good for a while longer. If you would like to try extending the summer flowers' lives, collect some and have a go.
We can't offer to hold plants for later collection – please just come along at the times above if you're keen.
