The work continues on steadily and it's great to finally be able to lock things in with all of the recent structural welding on RM 24's DE2 cab. Like a lot of these kinds of jobs the fabrication and trial fitting process is time consuming especially on the areas around the cab ends where there is a lot of complexity. Here are a selection images from the last few weeks.

A few pics courtesy of our passengers Jaidee and Graham Micklejohn last Saturday when RM31 ventured to Feilding and onto Marton to attend the 'Fielding in Lights' grand opening for the month-long event. A shame the weather was a bit inclement but 'Winter is Winter' so many thanks to all our passengers who supported the outing. While it's still volunteer week it seems an appropriate time to post a few photos of the various work going on with Silver Fern RM24 and some of the folk who make the place tick with not only the major project works but all of the yard and track maintenance and administrative. For our team and no doubt, the same for many other of our fellow sociétés the time we give week in, week out, year in and year out to keeping the lights on is a lifestyle commitment, we do what we do because it provides a real satisfaction of not only preserving and operating our nations rich railcar history but the enjoyment of getting together in doing so.

👉Do you want to get involved!! our door is aways open should you want to join the team and spend the occasional Sunday mucking in and helping to make a difference.

On the progress front - RM24, the structural works are in full swing particularly around the DE2 cab and A side frame members with a fair amount of the new material on hand to see us right for a little while. Virtually all of the new major stainless requirements from Etech for both cars have been delivered. The DE1 car has been lifted from the bogies, and this allows all of the servicing work to be carried out with component changeouts as required and all of the other associated tasks.

Work is also still quietly ticking along in the background on twinset RM121, mostly the seat work, the No 2 car roof painting preparation and fabrications of all the window parts. Once we manage to complete the works on the first Fern we will ramp up the work again on 121 to hopefully get it complete for once and for all.

Recently we ran RM31 to Ohakune then to Raurimu on Mother's Day with some Manawatu Gorge trips the day before, here are a selection of images from another great weekend of operations.
