We are advocating for a Tika + Pono (fair and just) journey to Settlement.

A sustainable settlement can only be achieved through a fair and just process. We have been advocating strongly for more equitable representation on the Te Komiti Nui board. Currently there is only 1 position for Maketu on their 10 person board.

Here are three reasons for equitable representation:

1. Diversity allows for a wider perspective of the issues and
needs of the Maketu community as well as Ngāti Whakaue
whānui.

2. Enhanced governance ensures that board decisions consider
the interests of all iwi members, helping to create policies
that reflect the needs and aspirations of everyone.

3. Social Responsibility and Ethical Practice ensures everyone
has equal opportunities in governance.

Fair representation isn’t just about ethics, it’s a strategic
advantage contributing to better governance, stronger
performance and better outcomes for all of Ngāti Whakaue.

We are stronger together!
