From today, Waitaha Canterbury has moved to a single blue tsunami evacuation zone, replacing the previous red, orange and yellow zones.

The change is designed to make tsunami evacuation messaging simpler and easier to understand. If you feel a long or strong earthquake that goes for more than a minute, or makes it hard to stand, evacuate immediately to higher ground or inland so that you are out of the blue tsunami evacuation zone. Do not wait for an official warning or an emergency mobile alert.

✅ Check the new evacuation maps.
✅ Know if your home, work, school or favourite recreation spot is in the blue zone.
✅ Make a plan before an emergency happens.

Kia ora everyone,

Living Springs is hosting our next volunteer day, and we would love your help.

Last session, we successfully cleared a whole block of wilding gums before they had a chance to become established. A huge thank you to Trevor, Louise, Vicky, and Quentin for their hard work and awesome mahi.

This time, we’ll be laying gravel on a track that is being developed for wheelchair access. The track will allow children living with cancer to visit the trees they have planted at Living Springs over the past few years.

It’s another great opportunity to get outdoors, connect with others, and make a real difference to the restoration work happening across Living Springs.

⏰ 9:00am – 12:30pm (lunch provided, wrap up by 1:30pm)

Please bring sturdy footwear, outdoor working clothes, a rain jacket, water bottle, gloves if you have them, snacks, and any personal medication. Living Springs will provide all tools and equipment.

Kids driving you up the walls? Bring them down to the club for a great afternoon on the water 💧 and off.

Paul with the R-Class foiling group will have a boat rigged up so the kids can have a safe go on our lawn.

Up in the club, we will have Kokokaha stations for the kids to explore pulley systems, build a boat hull and make it float, invertebrate hotels, and meter squared.

Wednesday October 7th 12pm-3pm!

👀🛥️ Do you live, work, or recreate in Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour? If so, we have an important heads-up for you!

From 6-9pm on Tuesday 13 October we will be doing a joint training exercise in Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour involving our on-water staff and Coastguard.

The exercise will simulate a breakdown on the ferry, requiring it to be towed into port by Coastguard, possibly with assistance from Lyttelton Port Company vessels.

So, if you see this happening, don’t be alarmed – it’s just a drill! Please share this with any of your friends or whānau who might be in the area that evening.

The Diamond Harbour Ferry will still run as normal using our back-up vessel, Black Diamond 💎.
