On Saturday, 30 May 2026, the Auckland Luo Learning Community Hub proudly hosted it's last Learning hub workshop "Developing Leaders and Leadership Skills / Nurturing Motivation and Interest" at MPHS Community Hub in Henderson, Auckland.

We were honoured to welcome Dr. Asif Khan, President of the Pakistan Association of New Zealand (PANZ), as our keynote speaker. His inspiring presentation encouraged participants to discover their leadership potential, strengthen their confidence, develop effective communication skills, and support the growth and success of young people within our communities. What an incredible afternoon of learning, inspiration, connection, and community spirit!

The workshop was filled with insightful discussions, interactive participation, thoughtful questions, and valuable learning opportunities. Participants shared experiences, explored new ideas, and left feeling motivated and empowered to make positive contributions within their families, schools, workplaces, and communities.

After an amazing journey of Learning Community Hub sessions, our Wellington community wrapped it all up in the best way possible, with a joyful graduation celebration alongside a beautiful Mother’s Day celebration!

On Saturday, 9th May 2026, the Luo Community NZ brought together vibrant and diverse communities for a truly unforgettable day celebrating our mothers and our Learning Community Hub graduates. It was something incredibly special!

The room was filled with fun, laughter, colour, culture, sparkle, music, and so much love as we honored our amazing mums and celebrated the achievements of our graduates. Different communities came together as one big family, each celebrating in their own beautiful and unique way.

We had another fantastic weekend across our Learning Hubs!

In Wellington, our session focused on staying safe at school and in care, building resilience, and supporting wellbeing, with a strong emphasis on mental health. We explored symptoms of stress, practical ways to manage it, and the unique challenges faced by migrant and refugee parents in New Zealand. The session also included helpful wellbeing resources and information packs.
A big thank you to Tina from Asian Family Services, who delivered an engaging, interactive session. Parents and teenagers worked together in teams, sharing ideas, presenting their thoughts, and asking meaningful questions. It was a truly fulfilling afternoon, with conversations continuing well beyond the session.

Meanwhile in Auckland, the Learning Hub explored NCEA. Led by Furqan Siddiqui, the workshop provided valuable insights into NCEA requirements, subject selection, and future education pathways. The session included an interactive Q&A and was a warm, supportive event that strengthened connections between students, parents, and educators.
Please find attached photos from the weekend

Looking ahead, this Saturday the 9th, our Wellington Luo Community team will be celebrating both Mother’s Day and our Learning Hub graduation. We’d love you to join us for a fun-filled afternoon!
We look forward to seeing you there.

🌺 Lest We Forget 🌺

Saturday, 25 April was a big and meaningful day for our community. A day filled with reflection, learning, and connection.

We began the morning bright and early, with some parents attending the ANZAC dawn service at 6am in their respective areas. Together, we honoured the brave men and women who served, remembering those who gave their lives, those who returned with lasting scars, and the families who carried the weight of their sacrifice.

Later in the day, we gathered for our third Wellington Luo Learning Community Hub session, led by the amazing Tr. Miriam Nehma. The session focused on Understanding Your Child’s Learning — exploring the parents’ portal, and the role of culture and identity in fostering belonging and participation. It was lively, interactive, and full of thoughtful discussion. Parents asked powerful questions, and the conversation was so engaging it carried on even after the session ended!

Meanwhile, our young learners were just as busy.Through creative ANZAC Day crafts and storytelling, they explored the meaning behind the day in a hands-on, engaging way. From watching the ANZAC story together to making heartfelt cards for their parents, it was a beautiful way to build understanding and appreciation.

A huge thank you to everyone, especially on such a full schedule!

Check out some of the special moments captured from the day.

We can’t wait to see you again on 02/05/26 for our next sessions (our fourth in Wellington and third in Auckland!)

Despite challenging weather on Saturday 18th, our Luo Learning Community Hub Wellington team proudly delivered its second successful Learning Hub session. presented by Yanling Guo, the session explored key topics including NCEA, pathways to achieving corequisites, ESOL, CAAs testing, etc. It was an engaging, informative, and insightful experience, with participants asking thoughtful questions and contributing actively throughout. Even after the session, the parents and youth were still engaging our two Teachers Tr. Yanling and Tr. Miriam.

Meanwhile, our young learners enjoyed an exciting hands-on STEM activity, a mini volcano experiment. The session began with a focus on safety, followed by an introduction to the materials and process. To keep the activity tidy in our rented venue, a small amount of dishwashing liquid was added to create a thicker, more controlled foam. While the eruption was gentler, the children remained fully engaged, demonstrating patience, teamwork, and enthusiasm as they shared ideas and learned together.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to making the day such a success. Photos from Saturday’s session are attached for your reference.

We look forward to seeing you at our next Wellington session on Saturday, 25 April 2026, and at Auckland’s third session on 2 May 2026. Have a fantastic week ahead!

Here’s a brief recap of Saturday, 11 April 2026.

From Auckland to Wellington, it has been a rewarding and busy weekend for our Luo Community.

Our Auckland Luo Learning Community Hub successfully held its second session on Understanding Your Child’s Learning, led by Dr Syed M. Shahid (EIT Auckland). It was an engaging and insightful session, with parents and students asking thoughtful questions and actively participating. We sincerely thank Dr Shahid for his valuable contribution.

In Wellington, we were privileged to host Cinthia Soto (Ministry of Education), who shared clear and helpful overview and insights into the New Zealand education system, hints on how to get help/ support structures, helpful resources and how parents can support their children’s learning. Once again a very insightful, informative and engaging session.

We also celebrated a HIPPY graduation—congratulations to our community member on completing 75 weeks of the programme.

We look forward to our next session in Wellington on Saturday, 18 April 2026 and, Auckland's third session on the 2rd of May 2026. See you there and have a fantastic week ahead!
