Co-hosted by Lower Hutt Neighbourhood Support and Volunteer Hutt Te Puna Tautoko, Te Ara Tūao is a FREE event at The Dowse Art Museum on 21 June for local organisations to showcase their mahi and how they are contributing to the well-being of the Te Awa Kairangi community.

It is also a chance for those looking to give back to their community to find a volunteer opportunity that suits them. There are a range of organisations participating - something to suit everyone!

Te Ara Tūao is aligned with International Volunteer Year, championing volunteerism in all its forms and ensuring volunteer contributions are recognized and measured.

Once a Volunteer Hutt volunteer, always part of the whānau 💛

Proud to see Ned being recognised for his amazing mahi!

When Ned Treacher found himself at the end of a contract in the middle of a job vacancy drought, his partner suggested volunteering to keep occupied and involved. His timing couldn’t have been better.

The Volunteer Hutt team had started developing a framework to ensure organisational compliance with its obligations under all relevant legislation and Te Tiriti. Ned relished broadening his knowledge in a new context.

In circumstances Ned describes as “bittersweet”, he has found employment. He said an important takeaway from the volunteer role was understanding the importance ofensuring that policy is responsive to the needs of Aotearoa New Zealand’s diverse communities, and what that actually means.
