Te Paepae Arahi was established in 2003 by the Hutt Valley DHB to support whanau with mental health and/or addiction needs. We tautoko over 500 children, rangatahi and pakeke each year
Our team of support workers, social workers, counsellors, nurses, kaumatua and alcohol and addiction clinicians enjoy helping whanau to increase wellness and succed in meeting their own goals. How can we help?

- Support Whanau with mental health or alcohol and drug concerns
- Support tamariki and rangatahi with mental health or alcohol and drug needs
- Work with schools, alternative education providers, Housing NZ, WINZ, CYFs, Police, Courts and others to support whanau
Rangatahi Support and Couselling
Our experienced team enjoy helping rangatahi aged 0-17 years to see and believe in their innate potential. We offer:
- Opportunities for rangatahi and their whanau to work through issues from a strength based approach
- One to one support and counselling for rangatahi to build and maintain positive relationships with their whanau, friends and school
- Programmes that teach rangatahi to cope better with the feelings they have, the behaviour they present, and how this affects, themselves, their whanau and others
Community Support Service - Whanau Ora Plans
- We can help and your whanau set goals for the things that are important to your health and wellbeing
- We are also happy to support you on your own if you prefer
We will help you reach your goals such as,
- Finding enjoyment and confidence
- Getting out of the house
- Reduced alcohol use
- Enjoying life drug free
- Finding accommodation
- Reconnecting with whanau and/or friends
- Establishing new support networks
- Re-engaging in school or studies
- Finding a job
- Budgeting
- Being a better parent or friend
Transition Accomodation - Te Whare Puawai in Upper Hutt
- Accommodation and support for up to 6 months to help whanau learn new skills and, in the future, live independently
Who is Te Whare Puawai for? Males of any ethnicity, aged 18 years or older who live in the Hutt Valley and are,
- Recovering from mental health and/or alcohol or drug issues
- Motivated to participate in own recovery
- Open to being a part of a home and supports based on Maori values
- Willing to participate in Te Whare Puawai programmes and supports, and
- Open to including whanau or other support networks in recovery
How do i access the services of Te Paepae Arahi?
- Anyone can make a referral by completing a referral form
- Referral forms can be requested by calling 920 0696 or downloading it from our website
- Referrals can also be made by rangatahi, whanau, doctors, school teachers/counsellors
- Referrals for Te Whare Puawai will include a NASC assessment.
