Historian and public thinker Dame Anne Salmond has been a bridge between cultures all her life - seeing connections between people and academic disciplines, between Māori and Pākehā cultures, between the islands of the Pacific and between the past and the present. Now, her new book revisits the stepping stones in her journey.

Talking to Paul Little, she reflects on her life and the work that has attracted both praise and criticism.

I just want everyone who came to our evening at Te Papa and Circa know that the feedback I received from the staff of each institution was so positive about our families but especially about you kids. Sean Mallon, who did the back of house tours in the Pacifica area at Te Papa, told me today that he was so impressed by how well behaved and interested you kids were on that back of house tour. They usually let no one under 16 on those tours but they allowed 10 yo for me. On the second tour he took every child regardless of age because of how well behaved the first group was. I heard the same thing from Circa staff....that were so impressed by the behaviour of our kids.

I and Annie, and I am sure Lou and others, are so proud of you for building that reputation for yourselves and for WaiPESI. Our WaiPESI kids ROCK! You will find that this kind of great behaviour can open doors for WaiPESI but also for you as an individual. You are great and it was so incredible for me for us to be together again.

Thank you for last night!
Bruce
