Wellington Chinese Women's Association

Wellington Chinese Women's Association WCWA (est. 2013) is a caring group of mums whose children have grown from newborns to uni students. All are welcome to join us.

We proudly call Wellington home and aim to support the community through cultural, educational, and community activities. 🌸 Welcome to the Wellington Chinese Women’s Association (WCWA)! 🌸

We are a group of Chinese mums from all across the Wellington region who came together to support one another and build community. Since our founding in 2013, we've grown alongside our children—from newborns to

university students—and now proudly call Wellington our home. At WCWA, we believe in the power of women helping women. We warmly welcome newcomers and are especially committed to supporting other ethnic mums who may need a friendly face, a listening ear, or practical advice as they settle into life in Aotearoa. Our mission is to strengthen the wellbeing of women and children by organising and collaborating on a wide range of educational, cultural, and community activities. From parenting workshops to cultural celebrations, we create spaces where families can connect, learn, and grow together. Whether you’re new to Wellington or have been here for years, we invite you to join us, share your story, and help us build an even stronger, kinder, and more inclusive community.

💛 Together, we support. Together, we thrive. 💛

Today our community had the privilege of visiting Koraunui Marae in Stokes Valley for a special parent-child cultural experience. Guided by our host Shane, we learned about the history of the wharenui, the stories and carvings that carry the ancestors’ wisdom, and the values of whānau, manaakitanga, and kaitiakitanga. Our group also shared our own culture by singing “Jasmine Flower”, creating a meaningful exchange between Chinese and Māori traditions.

🌟 At Saturday's seminar we were honoured to invite six Remarkable Guest Speakers including MP Nancy, former diplomat Michelle, Ministry of Education senior advisor Cinthia, Hutt City community officer Batool, school principal Caroline, and international leadership mentor Cathy Sheppard.

Each brought unique insights from politics, diplomacy, education, and community work—encouraging our youth to be hardworking, decisive, courageous, and authentic.

A special thank you to MP Nancy for travelling from Auckland to Wellington to share her inspiring personal journey with such humour and sincerity. Both parents and students found her talk engaging and deeply meaningful!

After the event, students shared that they not only gained valuable knowledge, but also felt a closer connection to real leaders, broadened their perspectives, and set higher aspirations for themselves。

On behalf of all the children and parents, we extend our heartfelt gratitude !
