DarkSky International has released a statement opposing Reflect Orbital’s proposal to use in-space mirrors to reflect sunlight onto Earth at night. Guided by science and the Five Principles of Responsible Outdoor Lighting, the statement outlines why orbital illumination systems pose serious risks to the nighttime environment.

We’ve also issued an open letter calling for transparency, environmental review, and public accountability before any such technology moves forward. We invite our community to learn more, add your name, and take action on an issue with unprecedented impacts on the night.
