The Canterbury team has come away with the win at the NZ Waterski Champs at Lake Kereta which finished yesterday 🎉

Familiar to the Tekapo club are Gavin and Tom Green, Gav who won all 3 events and picked up the overall for O65, Sammy and Kate Wood, Sammy coming silver in jump and slalom and silver overall in u14 girls and Kate gold in tricks, bronze slalom, with gold overall in u10, and Fletcher Coleman gold in jump and gold overall in u14 boys

Huge celebration at nationals as Bryan Murray comes in after a successful (pending) GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the oldest male water skier to ski for 1 kilometre at 94 years and 318 days 😁 Absolutely incredible and we are hugely proud of Bryan 🤩

Aussie–Kiwi Challenge comes to Lake Hood! 🦘🥝

Canterbury is proud to host the 2026 Aussie–Kiwi Challenge at Lake Hood, Ashburton, from 5–8 February - a major milestone event marking the 40th year of this iconic trans-Tasman water skiing rivalry.

The best Under 14, Under 17 and Under 21 water skiers from New Zealand and Australia will go head-to-head in slalom, trick and jump, showcasing the next generation of talent in the sport.

With teams, families and supporters travelling to Ashburton, the event is set to bring a great buzz to the region - both on and off the water.

A huge thank you to Lake Hood Water Ski Club and all volunteers for their work preparing the site and facilities for this special event.

1. Swerve and snags at Lake Hood on Wednesday, 14 January. If you're keen for your ski-schoolers to keep up their momentum on the water, or are interested in an introduction to the slalom course for the first time, this is your chance!

TIME & DATE: 9am, Wednesday 14 January 2026
PLACE: Lake Hood Water Ski Club, Lake Hood, Tinwald
ENTRIES: By 6pm on Sunday, 11 January to Janeen Donaldson ([email protected]) with your participants' names, ages and whether they're wake crossing, or in the mini slalom course or full course - or having a go for the first time.
COST: $60 per skier. Please pay Water Ski Lake Hood, 03-1351-0564910-000.

2. 'Have a go' at Lake Chapman in Swannanoa on Sunday, 25 January.
This fun event has been specially designed to give recreational water skiers a taste of what our tournaments are like. All skiers will get four passes, whether they're doing wake crossings, or taking a crack at the mini course or full course (with or without gates). There'll be some laughs, coaching and a sausage sizzle!

TIME & DATE: 9am, Sunday 25 January 2026
PLACE: Lake Chapman, 970 North Eyre Road, Swannanoa
ENTRIES: By 6pm on Monday, 19 January to Carrie Wallis ([email protected]) with your participants' names, ages and whether they're wake crossing, or in the mini slalom course or full course. Note, it's best if skiers are on one ski, and can generally get their deep water starts first crack.
