OceanaGold has now started drilling at the end of Owera Road (between Te Rerenga and Matarangi).

We know this is short notice but we are asking you to join us in protest TOMORROW 23 Feb at 3pm (see attached map). We will send a clear (NON-VIOLENT!) message: "No mining here"

We will not be occupying the property nor the drill rig and intend to only stay for 1 hour.

It is our community's history of solid response to various attempts by multinational mining companies to mine this area that has kept them out, so it is vital that they know that hasn't changed – they will be met with a solid community response!

We believe the drilling is being carried out on private residential property next to the house, part owned by one of OceanaGolds Employees. This drilling is to enable the next stages of their exploration and we cannot let their presence, especially with a drilling rig, go unanswered!

The proposed Fast Track Approvals Bill will hand unprecedented power to three ministers: Chris Bishop, Shane Jones and Simeon Brown. In 2020 Bishop stated publicly that Jones' dodgy dealings meant that "In any other government he'd have been sacked." Now that we do have another government, Jones has quickly shown that he is up to his old tricks. However rather than calling for his sacking, Bishop is now standing next to Jones with his hand out, waiting to receive all that unprecedented power.

The Fast Track Approvals Bill hasn't even been legislated yet but the ministers behind it are already showing us how they plan to run things.

There's still time...but not much! Get your submission in ASAP to have your say on the Fast Track Approvals Bill and the war on nature this Bill will bring if it passes.

There is so much at stake, but here are just five things that are threatened by the Fast Track Approvals Bill.

Massively disappointing news – Labour will not support the Bill to ban mining on conservation land, despite their past pledge. If the government cannot protect the taonga that dwell within Wharekirauponga, we must throw our support behind groups like Coromandel Watchdog of Hauraki. If you think conservation land should be for all New Zealanders and should not be subjected to the toxic plunder of overseas gold mining companies, join the chorus of voices at Watchdog today! https://watchdog.org.nz/
