Healthy Families Far North Bringing community leadership together to improve the health of our people.

Healthy Families NZ is a revolutionary approach to public health that addresses the underlying causes of preventable chronic diseases. Whether you're just starting out or keen to sharpen your skills, this workshop is for everyone. Learn how to measure, cut, and assemble timber safely, while also gaining practical knowledge about what to plant for this time of year.

The best part; the planter boxes become a koha back to marae across Whangaroa, supporting our rohe 🌿

✨ Maramataka Mondays 🌙

Whiro kicks off the week low, so don't fight it. Today's a good one to go slow and ease in.

Energy builds as the week goes on, with Wenerei and Tāite better suited to creative mahi and getting the tinana moving.

Ata = slowly, gently 🔶

Reflections from our Healthy Families Kāhui Māori wānanga 💭

It’s moments like these that remind us that prevention exists between the mahi too.

In the shared responsibility.
In showing up for ourselves and each other.
In whakapapa, kōrero and collective vision.

Sometimes prevention looks like strategy.
Sometimes it looks like doing the dishes.
Sometimes it’s early mornings, shared spaces and hard conversations.

Remembering that the way we do the mahi matters - understanding that health and wellbeing is shaped by the environments we create, the relationships we nurture, and the way we care for people along the way. 💚

Good health belongs in our communities, and it begins in the places where we spend our time, where we gather, connect, and belong: on marae, on whenua and with each other. 🌱🫂

This idea brought Rautaki Māori from Healthy Families NZ locations together in Te Tai Tokerau for the first time, to grow the contribution of mātauranga Māori to prevention and systems innovation across Aotearoa. 🌀

"Mātauranga Māori has long guided how we care for each other and our communities. These few days together gave us the chance to bring that knowledge back to the centre of our work, for the health and wellbeing of our people.” ✨

“As your Koro, my task was to explain the legacy so that each of you can hold it in your hands, absorb it, share it, add to it what you already know and finally cherish it.” — Tā Hirini Moko Mead, who died last week, aged 99, writing to “the mokopuna generation of the nation”.

Over the past few days we came together as Healthy Families Kāhui Māori o te Motu to share whakaaro, strengthen our collective and reflect on how mātauranga Māori continues to guide our mahi for whānau and communities. The wairua, kōrero, laughter and connections shared throughout this kaupapa were truly special🌱

As Healthy Families Far North, we were honoured to host this kaupapa and hold space for such meaningful wānanga here in Te Tai Tokerau, across places of deep significance not only to our rohe and people but to our nation also🌊⛰️

Ka mihia te hunga i whai wāhi ki te kaupapa nei. Te haukāinga o Ngāti Rēhia, ngā kaikōrero, ngā ringawera me ngā kaiārahi Māori o te motu hoki!
