Karamea Information & Resource Centre Local information, 24/7 fuel, Honeycomb Hill Cave and Oparara Basin tour bookings, gifts, books etc Information and services for visitors and locals.

The Centre provides information on the Oparara Basin, the Heaphy Track and other walks in the Kahurangi National Park. We provide a booking service for guided tours of the Honeycomb Hill Cave and the Oparara Arches. We have a growing range of local artworks, books, jewellery and other giftware. In conjunction with Tasman Ag, Inc we also run a farm supply store, supplying on-the-spot farm supplies to our local farmers and lifestylers. We also serve as a community hub, producing a fortnightly newspaper the Karamea Chronicle and offering office services such as printing and photocopying.

Explore the Ōpārara Basin.

The walk in is half the spell - moss-draped Kahurangi rainforest, a river the colour of strong tea, and limestone doing things limestone shouldn't be able to do: caves, tunnels, and the biggest arch in the Southern Hemisphere, high enough to swallow a ten-storey building. No photo does it justice. You have to stand in it.

Cathedral is the word everyone reaches for. It's the right one.
