📣📣 E karanga ana ki te whānau!!

We are gathering insights to better understand the housing needs, challenges, and aspirations of our whānau.

At the moment, we’re exploring opportunities to develop papakāinga and to repurpose housing in Kaikōura for Māori-focused living – providing safe, secure, and supportive spaces for our people and future generations. Your voice matters.

By sharing your thoughts, you help us create a plan that reflects the real needs of our whānau – whether you're living in Kaikōura, elsewhere, or thinking about returning home. Together, we can shape a strong pathway forward for housing, whānau wellbeing, and the long-term future of Ngāti Kurī here in our takiwā.

In order for us to gain an insight into our whānau needs for this kaupapa, we'd love to hear your feedback by completing this short survey: https://forms.office.com/r/xmj0dY8iCt

Ngā mihi māhana.

5Maunga 5Weeks kaupapa—an opportunity for whānau to reconnect with our whenua, whakapapa, and each other through a series of hīkoi across our takiwā.

This initiative is about strengthening our collective hauora by walking the tracks of our tīpuna, deepening our connection to our taiao, and supporting whānau wellbeing through movement, kōrero, and time in te taiao.

Details of the hīkoi:

🔹 Rapaki – 6th April | Lead: Issaac Fahey
🔹 Wairewa – 13th April | Lead: Iaean Cranwell
🔹 Koukourarata – 20th April | Lead: Mananui Ramsden
🔹 Maukatere – 27th April | Lead: Benj Brennan
🔹 Te Ahu Pātiki – 4th May | Lead: TBC

Each hīkoi will be led by whānau from the respective takiwā, sharing kōrero along the way. This kaupapa is for all ages, aiming to encourage whānau to spend time together, strengthen their wairua, and uphold the practice of takahī te whenua.

We would love for you to share this with your whānau and marae communities so they are aware of the kaupapa and can participate or follow along for the journey.
