Voluntary Fundraising Appeal – Support for Kumar Rai

Namaste everyone,

It is with great sadness that we share the news about the serious health condition of Mr. Kumar Rai (63), father of Arjun Thulung (Rai), a member of the Southland Nepalese Society.

Arjun’s father was visiting New Zealand when he became unwell and was admitted to Invercargill Hospital. He later travelled to Christchurch to catch a flight to Nepal for further treatment and to be with his family. However, upon arriving in Christchurch, his condition became very serious, and he was admitted to Christchurch Hospital, where he was diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer.

Arjun is now urgently making arrangements for his father to return to Nepal to be with his family and receive further care. This has placed Arjun and his family under immense emotional and financial pressure.

At this difficult time, we kindly request everyone to stand together and support Arjun and his family. Any contribution, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference.

If you are able to contribute by Saturday, 10 October, your support would be greatly appreciated.

Today, we gathered to remember and honour the lives lost in the devastating floods in Nepal and to stand in solidarity with those affected.

A heartfelt thank you to all community members from across Southland who attended the candlelight vigil despite the difficult weather. We are also grateful to the Invercargill Mayor, Councillors and their team, and the SIT CEO and whānau for standing with our community during this difficult time.

Our thoughts remain with the families and friends still waiting for their missing loved ones to return home. We also honour the volunteers, rescuers and emergency teams working tirelessly to save lives and support those in need.

Together, we remember those who lost their lives—may they rest in peace. We stand in solidarity with their families and friends, and hope for the safe return of those still missing.
