We are please to annouce the results from the 9th Rotary Sunrise School Garden Project Prizegiving for 2025/2026.

It’s fantastic to have Ascot Community School, Sacred Heart, Waihopai and Windsor North involved this year, and to welcome back Otatara and Tisbury Schools.

A big thank you to Dave and Kath Wilson from Wilson’s Veges - Farm Fresh for once again supplying the plants.

The project kicked off with plant delivery on 21 November, with judging held on 20 February. The quality of the gardens and produce, along with the enthusiasm of the students and support adults, was outstanding. It was a cracker day spent amongst the greens.

Thank you to everyone who made this project such a success.

🌍 Why Join Rotary? Hear From Karen Purdue!
At our recent meeting, Karen shared her amazing experience at the Rotary International Convention in Calgary. The city rolled out the red carpet for Rotarians—free train rides for the entire conference were just the start!
The convention featured inspiring speakers, including:

Geena Davis – Academy Award-winning actress and advocate for gender equality
Dr. Katherine Hayhoe – Climate scientist and communicator
Remish Ferris – A powerful story of resilience after contracting polio at 6 months old
Tawakkol Karman – Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist

Karen says attending an international convention is a must to truly experience the global impact of Rotary. Plus, she and Fraser even had time to catch up with their daughter Georgia while in Canada!
Next stop: Taipei 2026!

If you’ve ever thought about joining Rotary, now’s the time. It’s about connection, service, and making a difference—locally and globally.

Guest Speaker: Dave McKissock, Walking the Camino
Our Sunrise Rotary Invercargill club had the pleasure of hearing from Dave McKissock, who shared his incredible experience walking the Camino de Santiago. Dave took us on a journey through the history, culture, and personal reflections that make this pilgrimage so special. From the challenges of the trail to the friendships formed along the way, his story was both inspiring and thought-provoking.

Thank you, Dave, for giving us a glimpse into what it means to take on such an iconic adventure!

Guest Speaker: David Boniface, Fiordland Trails Trust

This week our Sunrise Rotary Invercargill club welcomed David Boniface to share the story of the Fiordland Trails Trust. Formed in 2007, the Trust’s mission is to deliver a high‑quality, interconnected network of trails in and around Fiordland for non‑motorised recreation, helping create a buzzing outdoor scene across Te Anau, Manapouri and the Te Anau Basin, including Mavora Lakes.

David highlighted the dedication of the volunteer Trustees who have worked tirelessly to grow the network. As at December 2025, consents are in place to complete the Lake2Lake Trail as a fully off‑road experience, connecting Balloon Loop to Supply Bay Road, and to extend the trail north towards the to‑be‑constructed Eweburn Bridge and, later, to Boundary Creek.

Thanks, David, for a thoughtful and inspiring update on what’s ahead for our region’s trails.
