*Baby supplies - thanks to the generosity of

people in the wider community we offer all the baby supplies and equipment you need for the first year of your baby's life.
*Counselling - sometimes these moments raise other issues, and we want to support you as your process what this has brought up for you.
*Community - we’ve got a community of mums just waiting to support you! With a playgroup and other social activities, we can connect you with other mums who are also trying their best, keen to see their kids flourish, and support one another.

✨ What’s on next week at the Heretaunga Women’s Centre! ✨

We’re welcoming the return of Gentle Mat Movements on Monday 28 July, a calming class with Sarah designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your body, and release built-up tension in a safe, nurturing space.

On Wednesday 30 July, join Sharleen Bailey for Unlock Your Creativity – a fun and accessible drawing workshop exploring “the positive side of negative spaces.” Just $5 to take part, and no experience needed!

Thursday 31 July is a big day – starting with a Community Kōrero featuring Wendy & Tracy from Tiny Nation. Whether you're a parent of young children or a qualified educator looking for flexible, meaningful work, come along and hear how Tiny Nation is transforming early learning in Aotearoa. Later that evening, Holly & Sarah return for the final session in our Health Series, focusing on chronic pain – a must-attend for anyone wanting to better understand their body and wellbeing.

On Friday, wrap up your week with Begin to Sew – a relaxed, beginner-friendly class with Aiai. Learn essential sewing skills in a supportive environment (machines available to borrow!).

When children feel overwhelmed, they don’t need a bigger reaction — they need a steadier presence.

Their nervous system is still developing. They’re still learning how to name what they feel, let alone regulate it. So when the emotions spill over — when they cry, shout, collapse, or push back — that’s not misbehaviour. That’s dysregulation.

And that’s where we come in. Not to escalate. Not to punish. But to steady the storm.

Because it’s not just what we say in those moments that matters — it’s the energy we bring.

Our calm teaches their system what safety feels like.
Our patience gives them a model of what self-regulation looks like.

It doesn’t mean we’re perfect. It doesn’t mean we don’t get triggered. But the more we can stay anchored, the more we show them that even in the midst of chaos — there is a way through…

And it begins with connection. ❤️
