Naumai Toastmasters

Naumai Toastmasters Welcome to Naumai South Taranaki Toastmasters Club. We meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, meetings start 6.30pm sharp. Come and join the fun!

Meets first and third Wednesday monthly from 6:15 pm meeting starts at 6:30 pm at the St John's Hall, 184 Princes Street, Hawera. Through its worldwide network of clubs, each week Toastmasters helps more than a quarter of a million men and women of every ethnicity, education level and profession build their competence in communication so they can gain the confidence to lead others. Toastmasters co

ntinues to build on its legacy by providing a strong foundation for the future. Its proven educational program continually evolves to address the needs of the world’s communicators and leaders both today and tomorrow. Toastmasters members learn to tell their story. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback – and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership. They do this by practice and learning skills by filling meeting roles, ranging from giving a prepared or an impromptu speech to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in positive manner, focusing on what was done correctly and what could be improved. Great communicators tend to be great leaders.

Some of history's most important speeches were said with trembling hands and nervous words.

It takes gumption to stand in front of others and share your story. It isn't about talking without fear, but rather speaking despite it.

Our member highlight this week is Adrienne who joined Toastmasters to improve her speaking skills for work presentations, and hasn't left since!

Adrienne brings a wealth of knowledge to our group as well as tasty baking!

The Four Seasons, was the theme of last week's meeting. There were jokes that would make you "fall" on the floor, we all needed to "spring" into action when it was our turn for table topics, we had "summer" our members with prepared speeches and the "winters" took home ribbons and trophies (yes I know that last one was a bit of a stretch!)

If you are a fan of terrible puns, come along to our next meeting Wednesday 3rd June 6.30pm sharp. Send us a message on here for more details.

Yes, we've heard this one a few times over the years!

You will find there is so much more to Toastmasters than public speaking. For example learning to run a meeting, becoming an active listener, learning how to critique others in a professional manner, all the while growing more confident and comfortable- without any bread or grapes being harmed in the making 😉.

Welcome to our new series "Meet our members". Each week we take a look at the reason Naumai Toastmasters is so special- the people!

This week we are starting strong with our newest Naumai members Glenys and Steve, who are actually our most seasoned speakers. Glenys and Steve were involved with various Toastmaster clubs while living in Wellington and we were lucky enough to nab their expertise since they moved back to South Taranaki. Their humor and willingness to step into any role made them an easy fit into our group.

Last weeks meeting had a little bit of everything! We had a wonderful new guest Melissa (who won best table topics by the way!), somewhat of a Charlie's angels quartet and even a friendly board game!

Even when we have small meetings, we are still full of fun.

If you're interested in becoming a "Toast Angel"™️ or watching the shenanigans unfold, our next meeting is Wednesday 6th of May at 6.30pm sharp.

Flick us a message for more info!

Last meetings theme was all about St Patrick's day and feeling under the weather. But there mustve been some Irish luck in our club as we had a three way tie for best table topic!

Tomorrow's theme is International Day of Reflection, so if you are reflecting on your new years resolution to join Toastmasters (👀) come along tomorrow night enjoy some company, tea and bikkies. Meeting begins 6.30pm sharp at St Mary's Anglican Church Princes Street. Our door and inbox is always open.

Picture this.

It's Easter weekend and one of your grandies does something so funny, you want to tell the world but... no one listens.

Or someone asks you to say a few words at your family gathering this afternoon and suddenly the cat has your tongue.

Or you need to disarm a standoff between two sugar hyped toddlers and an Easter egg, but you are lacking conviction.

Well well well do we have the solution for you!

At Naumai Toastmasters we love to hear your cute stories and teach you how to speak confidently to your family, friends, world leaders and even those little people who run your home. Interested? Come along to our next meeting and be better prepared for what life throws at you.

Next meeting Tuesday 7th April at 6.30pm sharp.

Another congratulations is in order for one of our newest members Melanie Squires.

Melanie placed 2nd in the evaluation contest during the International Speech Competition held in February.

This involved listening to a speech, spending five minutes writing notes and suggestions to the speaker, then presenting her evaluation for five to seven minutes.

Melanie you have excelled yourself wonderfully and you are a fantastic member of our club who always loves a challenge and does it with a smile. Congratulations.
