Tomorrow, as we commemorate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice at Anzac Day parades around NZ, spare a thought for the 10,000 horses sent to support the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in WW1.

They served where most New Zealanders served: in German Samoa, at Gallipoli, in the Middle East and on the Western Front.

Of those who survived the war, only four returned home 😢

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning.
We will remember them."

Happy Monday! What an amazing weekend - Wanaka was certainly buzzing with the Wanaka A&P Show . The weather definitely played its part, which provided some spectacular night time photo ops. Thanks to Teresa Cotter for sending us this image of the old tin shed-cum-bar at the Domain.

Happy Hump Day - often Hawea race day form comes through on the summer circuit.

The Hawea Cup winner Hazer won at Invercargill at good odds a couple of weeks ago, while last Sunday the McCormick family hit the quinella at Methven with Vertigo and Father Mike.

Congratulations to the respective owners and trainers.

It's been all go on and off the track!

Calling today's races has been race announcing legend Dave McDonald. It's great to see such a legend support us.

We've just had the two big races of the day.

Mr consistent Hazer won the Lake Hāwea Station Hawea Cup for trainer Chris Gerken from a fast finishing Amass, while Father Mike took out the Wanaka Self Storage Alan May Memorial Trot for trainer Lawrence McCormick.

Trainer Jonny Morrison's outstanding support for today's meeting was rewarded with a win in the Upper Clutha Transport Allan Gray Memorial Pace.

Good morning Central Otago 🌞🐎
It’s RACE DAY and we’re all set for a brilliant day of racing and family fun at the Hāwea domain.

Here's some important stuff you need to know:

👉Bring cash - there's eftpos on the gate and for a couple of activities but cash is king.
👉Dogs are allowed but please keep them on a leash, as some dogs aren't very horse savvy
👉You can bring your own beverages (don't forget water) and a picnic lunch
👉 First race is at 12 noon

We've had good entries for the six harness races and there's plenty of supporting action, including the
🌟Hobby horse events,
🌟2-legged races for men and women with $200 prize money for the winners, and
🌟the World Famous in Hāwea chocolate wheel.

👉 Stay tuned on our page throughout the day for live updates, results, behind-the-scenes moments and plenty of photos as the action unfolds.
